- Drink a big glass of water
Sometimes you feel like this because you are bloated from too much salt, water flushes your system
- Evaluate why you feel like a blimp
Did you eat too much? Haven't gotten any exercise? Have a salt overload? Feel guilty?
- Do something about it
Make a plan to get some exercise, take a hot bath, or take some time for yourself to reflect
- Journal your feelings
Writing will unlock some of you deeper feelings. Don't think just write, walk away for a few hours, read what you wrote within the next 24 hours
So, how do you feel now? I don't need to tell you how to score the questions but if you are borderline or on the bad side of four or more questions it may be time for you to make some changes. Remember you can be proud at whatever size and shape you are but you need to be healthy!
Can You Be Overweight And Healthy?
by: Jaime Carroll
First let's recount what the doctor's view as overweight; 20 pounds over the "ideal" body chart we see when we go to the doctors. For me, that means I can't weight more than 165 pounds, at 5'8''. So as I sit here and think back to when I weighed 165 I recall that I was a size 12. Ahhhhhhh…… a size 12, wouldn't it be nice! Realistic? Maybe, with lot's of "if's" attached to it.
So I sit here at a size 18/20 and wonder am I a healthy person? I searched through numerous sites; diet, health, exercise, obesity, food, and I find yeah, I'm pretty healthy. Scroll through the questions below and begin to evaluate where you're at. Some of the sites that I visited offered some basic quizzes to evaluate your health. That is where the questions originated from.
- 1. Can you walk up a flight of stairs briskly and not be winded? Hell ya! Give me three flights!
- 2. How often do you exercise? At least three times a week.
- 3. Do you make healthy eating choices? Yes, I make sure I choose from all of the food groups, eat vegetables every day, eat red meat once a week, and always ask to see the dessert tray when I am out to dinner.
- 4. How's your blood pressure? About 130-140/70-80, pretty damn good if you ask me!
- 5. How's Your Cholesterol? I don't have the numbers, but I get it checked once a year and was told last year that my "bad" cholesterol was LOW!
- 6. What's your family's health history? My grandmother died at a young age (67), although she smoked like a chimney, didn't eat right, and got no exercise. The rest of my family is going strong. Great-gram is 5' tall and about 160 pounds and still kickin' it at age 90! Go Gram!
- 7. Do you smoke? No. NO. No. But, I did in college for three years. Don't tell my mom!
- 8. Do you drink? Yes, faithfully! Just kidding. Yes probably about two drinks per week on average. PS: This is still proven to help you more than hurt you. One drink a day is said to keep the blood moving in your body to help avoid clots.
- 9. Are you emotionally healthy? (happy) Yes, I am a firm believer in people that are depressed or unbalanced are more apt to experience health problems. A laugh a day keeps the doctor away. And I love to smile. Did you know it takes more muscles to frown than it does to smile. I tell my students that all the time!
- 10. Are you comfortable at your weight? I LOVE this question!!! Flat out, NO, I'm not. I need to loose about 40 pounds and then I could be more comfortable in my clothes, in all the activities I like to enjoy, and with my body.
Spring Approaches
I LOVE winter clothes. My black turtleneck sweater from Old Navy is one of my favorites. I feel secure in heavy clothing: safe, warm, and most of all stylish.
Season to season our wardrobes change. But I love to hang on to my dark sliming colors for as long as I can. My black pants with a sharp blouse and blazer make me feel snazzy, stylish, and like a professional. Or the little black dress, in a size 20, that I get to wear to the Christmas party.
Ahhh... and how about my leather jacket. My jacket was my favorite Christmas present this year. It's stylish and sliming all in one. What more could a woman want? My chunky black boots sit in my closet screaming for two more months of cold temperatures so they can be displayed a few more times.
My deep colors of lipstick are found in every jacket pocket and purse I have. I never want to put them away but know that when spring arrives it's time for the pinks or the natural tones.
Growing up in Maine my whole life allowed me to wear my winter clothes for almost five months out of the year. In the summer I worked at a Marina and never had to worry about being too stylish as I wanted to get sun, be comfortable, and had to worry about not staining my clothes.
Now that I am a Maryland girl, only by residence, I need to adapt my taste. I have a real problem with trying to be stylish when it's 100 degrees out and 85% humidity. And did I mention my naturally curly hair has a mind of it's own for the five months of humidity we suffer each year.
When summer comes and I have to bare more I tend to be less stylish. I throw on a pair of shorts and a random t-shirt or if I'm having a "thin" day, a tank-top. Summer colors tend to be lighter and we all know that those dark colors are flattering to plus size women.
My mission it to seek out those stylish, sweat free, clothes we all desire for the time of year that makes me personally feel like a slug. As I am one of the few women that actually feel like I have more energy when it's 20 degrees as opposed to 80 degrees.
So ladies, as I pack up the darks and the "chunkies", I am inspired to find more fashion for us for those long hot months ahead. Anyone have any suggestions?
